French flag carrier; Air France has the final identity check on passengers. This step has been taken to make sure that the same name is present on passengers’ passports and their boarding passes. This raises concerns over flight safety from unions and local authorities.

This step of Air France may affect the flights within France and the EU’s Schengen zone. Plus, it will also be applied to Air France’s budget airlines Hop! and Transavia.

For the change in the procedure, the airline defends itself by saying that France’s state of emergency was lifted in November last year and it is not obliged to carry out the check.

Gilles Leclair; the company’s Director of Air Security has also come out in defense of the move and stated that the final check before people board the plane does not constitute a security check.

The Mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi is also against the change in the boarding process. He calls it “unacceptable” and asks for the measure to “re-established at all the companies.”

This measure may lead to incoming of passengers on the plane who can attempt to commit a malicious act. Only the baggage is screened, but overall, you may sit beside a passenger who has had someone else buy his ticket for the wrong reasons.
