Aegean Airlines is celebrating its 18th year with a prestigious award. And on this occasion, the airline has also decided to expand its 18 new routes. The commercial aviation company of Greek has just won the Best Regional Airline award of 2018.
Aegean now consists of 47 jet aircrafts that include turboprop subsidiary Olympic Air. It mainly flies A320s and A321s on short to medium-haul routes joined by a brand new A319.
The judges of the website Airline Ratings that organized the awards said, “It is now Greece’s biggest airline with a fleet of modern Airbus A320 family aircraft, a good reputation among travelers and bold plans for expansion. The airline is also heavily involved in promoting to provide a platform for Greek regions and products.”
In 2017, Aegean was also the recipient of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). That won the Fast Travel Gold Award for simplifying and speeding up the passenger experience.
In 2016 the airline flew 12.5 million passengers from Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and London to Cairo, Moscow and Tel Aviv.
Currently, the airline also offers the 30 inches seats in economy and 33 inches seats in business class. Its frequent flyer program and connectivity benefits through its Star Alliance membership have made it more competitive.
Apart from this, the Aegean also plans for expanding available seats by 700,000 and upgrading passenger facilities in 2018.
The lounges in Thessaloniki and Larnaca have been upgraded. The Athens International Airport lounge will be completed by December and a second lounge in Athens is also due by early next year.
