Personal Security Pass

At the Amsterdam airport, a Personal Security Pass pilot was launched on Tuesday, November 28. This allows the passenger to book a slot from 4 days to 75 minutes before departure of the flight. The passenger can book it through the website of the airport or via Schiphol App.

Schiphol is testing to see whether travelers value the certainty of a fixed time to go through security and how such a program would impact the influx of passengers at security control. The Pass will be rolled out for general use if the pilot project proves successful.

Available Facilities:

  • The project is located at the gate in Departure Hall 1.
  • In every 15 minutes, 30 passengers will be able to move through the Personal Security Pass entry gate.
  • There are more than 400-time slots available each day.
  • It is only available for selected Schengen-area flights that are between 10 AM & 1.30 PM until Monday, December 11.

The Daan van Vroonhoven, Manager of Security Policy, said: “At Disneyland, it is very normal, for years already, to reserve a time slot for a ride or exhibition.”

Schiphol is experimenting with security to try and smooth the ride of its passengers. The ‘small bags only’ lanes were tested for flyers with little or no hand luggage over summer.

So in September, after statistics were released showing that 95 % of passengers waited 10 minutes or less at security. The airport is also at the forefront of developing biometrics for security with their biometric border crossing.
